New Year New Bureau and New Conseil

Firstly I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year from myself and the “admin team”!  Yes, I know we have had a week of January already.

I hope those who were not present at the AGE (Extraordinary General Meeting) at the end of November are aware that I have now taken over as President of the Library Association.   In November, Steve Chicken wrote expressing thanks to John Essom for his sterling work last year and I would like now to add thanks to Steve as well as to John.  Unfortunately Steve felt unable to continue as Co-President for personal reasons and that left us in a situation necessitating the AGE.  At the same time our Treasurer Corinne Sutton wished to resign and Sally Hill who has run the cafe so effectively had also expressed her wish to stand down at the end of the year as did our Events Co-ordinator Jan Pitwell!

For those who dont know me, I arrived in the region almost exactly 6 years ago in January 2013.  I found Rodney and the library such a helpful and welcoming place, especially in my early days as a newcomer.  I now live in a hamlet near Azerables and have restored (not personally) my house.

So we have a new treasurer now in Ray Metcalfe, and a new cafe organiser, Kim Tunnicliffe, and Francesco Zangrandi has joined Conseil.  We are looking forward to 2019 with enthusiasm ( and perhaps a little trepidation as we find out what we have let ourselves in for!!). However, we still have Jane Perryman as our very efficiant and hard working secretary, Christine Seaman who runs the library side so well to support us.  I hope you will soon see us all in person as well as on the website which thanks to the hard work and many hours put in by Andrew Perryman is an amazing resource which is undergoing constant development.

We will have our AG (AGM) in March/April, and hope to present further information on the financial situation and plans to manage this ongoing, look at membership and the impact of increased fees, and ideas for future activities and library functions within the La Souterraine and regional community both expatriot and french.

My thanks on behalf of you all to those who have worked so hard to keep the library on its feet and start to move it forward.  I hope we can continue this and I look forward to your support and that of the Conseil in doing this.

I hope to meet more of you as I visit the Groups in action, and in the library itself.  A number of members have commented that the cafe isn’t what is was in terms of being a busy chatty place to come on a Saturday.
Can we try to improve this?  Come along and have a piece of cake and a coffee and a chat.  One thought is to extend opening on a Saturday to give people longer before or after shopping.  Any thoughts?  That of course depends on our trusty band of volunteers who we must also thank for the effort and their time that  they put in to the cafe and library opening hours. They would also welcome new volunteers to join them.  Then we should also thank our Group Leaders who run our very popular groups with enthusiasm and great success.

SO DONT FORGET TO RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP!  THE NEW ONLINE METHOD  IS VERY SIMPLE AND DOES NOT REQUIRE PAYPAL MEMBERSHIP AS YOU USE YOUR CREDIT/DEBIT CARD. IT TOOK ME ABOUT 5 MINUTES TO DO THIS!

Please Note..  A single renewal updates all associated household accounts held with the library.

And again, I wish you all Bonne Sante, et Bonne Annee.
